ARTIST STATEMENT

Betina Stampe is a Danish visual artist working across medias, including painting, sculpture and ceramics. Her monochromatic pieces often draw on and mimic nature which is simultaneously calm and dynamic. Coming from a busy lifestyle as a former business owner and founder of worldwide interior brand Bloomingville, Stampe felt a need to go back to something simpler, slower and reconnect to materials with her own hands.

The pieces have a strong voice in their own right, while also tying in beautifully with other art pieces as art collages. This is a skill Stampe has acquired through her interior background. Stampe is interested in allowing her shapes and textures to express themselves in relation to other pieces. There is an awareness of the materiality in her work which awakens the senses. Every wave, layer and surface has been thoughtfully and carefully shaped into place by hand – a stark contrast to the world of mass production she came from.

Stampe’s creations invites us to reconsider what is important and find strength in nature, the quiet and the calm.
